About Huangshan (Yellow) Mountain

Mount Huangshan (Mt. Huangshan), literally translated as Yellow Mountain, is located in the eastern provience of Anhui, China. It ranks among the Great Wall and the famous Terracotta Warriors as one of China¡¯s most luring tourist attractions. Among the ten best sightseeing locales in China, Yellow Mountain  is famous for its rocks, gnarled pine trees, sea of clods and hot springs. It was formed by crustal uplift over a hundred million years ago, and subsequently underwent glacial erosion that created their present magnificent, scenic appearance.

The Yellow Mountains are a marvel: within an area of 154 square kilometers there is a high concentration of noteworthy granite peaks with vertical joints, 72 of which have names indicating the shapes they resemble. Lotus Flower Peak, Lotus Brightness Apex, and Celestial Capital are the three major ones, all rising above 1,800 meters. Erosion and fracture contributed to form the rocks into huge columns, giving rise to lofty peaks and deep ravines. Depending on the weather, the visitor can delight in the mystery of granite peaks penetrating the mist or find awe in the shimmering, illuminated spires punctuated by deep shadows in the vertical seams..

As an international ecotourism point of interest, UNESCO listed the Yellow Mountain as an official World Cultural Heritage Site in 1990. Known for its unique pines, geological formations, dream-like clouds and clear hot springs, Yellow Mountain is known in China as "The Number One Mountain Under Heaven". Though, with close to eighty awe-inspiring peaks in excess of 1,000 meters tall, Yellow Mountain is actually an entire range of mountains and valleys, sure to impress the dedicated outdoor tourist or those in search of China¡¯s best mountain resorts. The jutting rocks, shimmering pools, gurgling water falls and the ephemeral clouds that make up the mountain¡¯s dreamlike ambience are sure to invoke images of the most famous Chinese art.
